Odyssey Media remembers “Aunt” Diahann Carroll
She strolled through the Ritz-Carlton with dignity – poised and confident. She knew and understood that as an iconic legend she had a special place in our hearts. She was always approachable and shared her wisdom with all of our Odyssey attendees.
She delighted our audience with delicious conversations about the men in her life and reflected on sobering moments of her treatment as a Black businesswoman, Author, Actress and most of all an Entertainer.
Technically she was not my “Aunt”, but in our culture and many others Tia, Zia, Auntie is one who dispenses advice, doles out warnings and makes you feel whole.
Susan Fales- Hill introduced her to me and she called her Aunt Diahann – soon everybody on our Odyssey Team was calling her Ms. Carroll, Aunt Diahann and sometimes slipping and calling her Julia.
She spoke at The Odyssey Network Business Retreat for several years and could be caught hanging out in my suite looking for champagne and late night giggles.
Odyssey tributes are pouring in and I miss you already Aunt Diahann.
Thanks for all of your love and advice.
